Senior expertise.
Independent judgement.

QARC was founded by Anthony Jones BSc(Hons) FFA C.Act MINQA — a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK), with 25 years of hands-on experience across life insurance, general insurance, capital modelling, pensions, and technology.

Career highlights include eight years as Head of Capital & Risk at Discovery Life — where his team's work saved the group approximately R15 billion in required capital through successful lobbying of the Prudential Authority on a technical SAM shortcoming — and serving as Appointed Actuary for multiple Liberty Life subsidiaries. He has led international M&A due diligence for Swiss Re and Tokio Marine through Ernst & Young, and was offered the position of Executive Director at EY Johannesburg.

He chose instead to build QARC — an independent, AI-first practice structured around distributed delivery and genuine technology leadership, rather than the traditional large-firm model.

AI-First Practice

The profession is not taking AI seriously. We are.

Every quantitative discipline adjacent to actuarial science — data science, quantitative finance, risk management — has been fundamentally changed by machine learning and AI. Actuarial practice has largely watched from the sidelines. QARC is building its practice on the premise that this changes in the next five years, and that the firms and practitioners who engage now will define the next era of the profession.

Machine learning for mortality and lapse modelling — gradient boosting and neural approaches that outperform traditional GLMs on complex product structures
Agentic AI for actuarial workflow automation — LLM-driven pipelines for experience analysis, commentary generation, and model run orchestration
Python-first data engineering — replacing fragile Excel-based data preparation with automated, tested, version-controlled pipelines
Modern reporting infrastructure — dynamic dashboards replacing static PDF output packs for actuarial management information
Predictive Modelling
ML-based mortality, morbidity and lapse models. Experience analysis using modern statistical tooling beyond traditional GLM approaches.
Agentic Workflows
AI agents for actuarial data validation, ORSA narrative drafting, model run management, and regulatory submission preparation.
Data Pipelines
Python, SQL and dbt replacing Excel-based actuarial data preparation. Version-controlled, tested, and auditable end-to-end.
Platform Advisory
Independent assessment of actuarial modelling platforms — Prophet, RAFM, Slope, Pathwise — without vendor conflict of interest.
Visualisation
Power BI and Python-based actuarial dashboards. Real-time management information replacing quarterly static reporting packs.
Training
Structured programmes in Prophet, Python for actuaries, data engineering fundamentals, and AI tools for actuarial practice.

Thinking from the practice
