AI-first in orientation. Distributed in delivery. Founded by a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries with 25 years of experience at the highest levels of life insurance — and a clear view of where the profession needs to go.
QARC was founded by Anthony Jones BSc(Hons) FFA C.Act MINQA — a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK), with 25 years of hands-on experience across life insurance, general insurance, capital modelling, pensions, and technology.
Career highlights include eight years as Head of Capital & Risk at Discovery Life — where his team's work saved the group approximately R15 billion in required capital through successful lobbying of the Prudential Authority on a technical SAM shortcoming — and serving as Appointed Actuary for multiple Liberty Life subsidiaries. He has led international M&A due diligence for Swiss Re and Tokio Marine through Ernst & Young, and was offered the position of Executive Director at EY Johannesburg.
He chose instead to build QARC — an independent, AI-first practice structured around distributed delivery and genuine technology leadership, rather than the traditional large-firm model.
Full background and credentialsEvery quantitative discipline adjacent to actuarial science — data science, quantitative finance, risk management — has been fundamentally changed by machine learning and AI. Actuarial practice has largely watched from the sidelines. QARC is building its practice on the premise that this changes in the next five years, and that the firms and practitioners who engage now will define the next era of the profession.
Anthony writes on actuarial technology, AI in financial services, offshore delivery, and the questions the profession is not asking loudly enough. Published on Substack.
Whether you are a UK insurer evaluating offshore delivery, a South African cell captive looking for actuarial function support, or a technology vendor seeking a credible African partner — we would be glad to talk.
